DRAFTER

MISSIONS
In their particular area of technical skills (pipeline, structure, PID…), they draft or modify, using 2D CADD or 3D CAD tools, the designs produced by the designers and engineers: assembly, subassembly diagrams, installation details. They may be called upon to make on-site readings and measurements under the auspices of a design technician.

PROFILE
Gifted with good spatial vision, the drafter is methodical and rigorous. Teamwork is what their days are about. Their technical curiosity enables them to make rapid progress.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Design technician, technical coordinator

DESIGN TECHNICIAN

MISSIONS
In their technical skills field, the technician or designer designs an installation or a system via assembly, subassembly diagrams or installation details, according to client specs. The designer (pipelines, structure, PID…) produces these 2D or 3D models using dedicated software, and prepares the data for the drafters.

Based on the calculations of specialist engineers, the technician (electricity, instrumentation, HVAC, functional studies, etc.) drafts the functional specifications, and the equipment and work specifications.

The technician and the designer also make calculations and fine-tune their design under the supervision of specialist engineers. They organize and conduct readings and measurements on site.

PROFILE
Gifted with good spatial vision, the designer or technician is methodical and rigorous. They master the techniques of design and pre-dimensioning linked to their speciality. Self-scrutiny, team spirit and the ability to communicate are success criteria in this role.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Technical coordinator, specialist engineer

SPECIALIST ENGINEER

MISSIONS
Whatever their speciality (processes, structure, electricity, industrial safety, etc.), engineers are responsible for the design, dimensioning and technical specifications of an installation or a system according to a general technical brief of the client, in compliance with the applicable codes and regulations. Upstream, they are involved in the costing of bids within their speciality. They organize internal technical meetings with the suppliers and the client; and they may supervise a team of drafters, technicians and/or designers.

PROFILE
As a graduate from university (Master’s 2) or engineering school, or else following a Validation of Acquired Experience (Validation des acquis de l’expérience, VAE), the specialist engineer will have developed skills in a given speciality.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Project manager

TECHNICAL COORDINATOR

MISSIONS
In their particular skills field, technical coordinators organize the work and serve as guarantor for the quality of the studies produced by the members of their team, a team specifically created for the purposes of a project (engineers and/or drafters/designers).

PROFILE
Depending on the size of the project, a technical coordinator may be an engineer who coordinates the work of other engineers and technicians within their own speciality, or a draft technician supervising other draft technicians within their own speciality.

More than just their level of training, it is their experience of different engineering and construction projects that counts the most. They will have developed their skills in cross-disciplinary/horizontal management. They are keen to produce quality work while remaining conscious of the constraints dictated by the client in terms of cost and deadline.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Technical coordinator of a larger project, project manager

PROJECT MANAGER

MISSIONS
Project managers are in charge of conducting all operations required for achieving the technical objectives, in line with budget, contractual deadlines and company procedures. They lead varied engineering projects, from conceptual studies through to detailed studies. They serve as the client’s point of contact.

PROFILE
Generally experts in a speciality (process engineering, structure, pipelines, etc.) at the start of their careers, they will have developed their skills in other technical disciplines as the projects accumulate, and thanks to their high degree of curiosity. While they may have a general engineering background, it is their experience in technical coordination or interface management that will have enabled them to acquire multidisciplinary skills.

They are good communicators, and they master the keys to project management.
